This mediation service is a specialized service designed to improve communication in families experiencing parent-teen conflict. The mediator assists families to develop solutions that promote healthy and realistic expectations for both parents and teenagers. The mediator meets with family members at home or in an office or community location that suits the interests of all parties.
Family Mediation applies the basic principles of mediation to the resolution of issues that arise in families. The majority of Family Mediation has tended to focus on separation, divorce, common law unions and custody/parent plans. The process of mediation can also be used to help individuals within families resolve a wide range of issues related to couples, siblings, adoptions, step/blended families parenting, extended families and eldercare.
Mediation assists parties in resolving disputes in a timely, child-centered manner with the goal of creating a parenting plan and a memorandum of understanding. The mediator assists in identifying issues and concerns, exploring options, and coming to agreements that both parties feel they can commit to using. Mediation is a voluntary process. If both parties are not willing to enter into mediation, other dispute resolution alternatives will be considered.
