Wind Farm Project History:

Digby Wind Farm
Dates: Access to site (April 2010). Substantial completion (December 2010)

EUS designed, procured and constructed 10.8kms of roads and 20 turbine bases. We staged, erected, and installed 20 – 1.5MW GE wind turbines, and designed, procured, and constructed the 7.8km 34.5kV electrical system and the 34.5kV to 69kV substation. This included the control building, panel installation, circuit breakers as well as all testing & commissioning for the 30MW Digby Wind Farm. EUS also constructed the 7.8km fiber optic communication system, including terminations in the turbines and at the substation.

Glen Dhu Wind Farm
Dates: Access to site (August 2009). Substantial completion (February 2010)

EUS designed, procured, and constructed the 9km overhead and 8km underground 34.5kV electrical system. The project included electrical terminations at the switchgear in the base of the turbines, the 34.5kV to 138kV substation, control building, panel installation, circuit breakers, testing and commissioning. EUS also constructed the 27km fiber optic communication system including terminations in the turbines, and at the substation.

Lameque Wind Farm
Dates: Access to site (December 2010). Substantial Completion (March 2011).

EUS constructed the 23 km underground 25kV electrical system and the underground fiber optic communication system. This project included electrical and communication terminations at the switchgear in the base of 30 – 1.5 MW Acciona wind turbines and at the substation. EUS was also responsible for the Partial Discharge testing of the electrical system and the Optical Time-Domain Reflect-o-meter testing of the fiber.

Point Tupper Wind Farm
Dates: Access to site (January 2010). Substantial completion (June 2010).

EUS was awarded the contract from RESL to build 5.5 km of 5kV overhead collector system, 0.6 km of 25kV underground collector system and high voltage terminations for 11 Wind Turbine Generators. The Point Tupper Wind Farm has a capacity of 22 MW and is fully operational in Cape Breton, Nova Scotia.

Dalhousie Mountain Wind Farm

Dates: Access to site (January 2009). Substantial completion (January 2010).

EUS designed, procured and constructed the electrical system for the 51 MW Dalhousie Mountain Wind Farm including the 21 km 34.5kV single and double circuit overhead and single circuit underground collector system and then 34.5kV to 230kV owner side of the substation, including control building, panel installation, circuit breakers, testing & commissioning. EUS also constructed the 21 km fiber optic communication system including terminations in the turbines, and at the substation.

Caribou Mountain Wind Farm
Dates: Access to site (April 2009). Substantial completion (October 2009).

EUS procured, and constructed the electrical system for the 99MW Caribou Mountain I Wind Farm including the 28 km 34.5kV single, double, triple, and quadruple overhead single circuit underground collector system and the 34.5kV to 138kV owner’s substation, prefabricated control building, panel installation, testing & commissioning. EUS also constructed the 28 km fiber optic communication system including terminations in the turbines and at the substations.

Kent Hills Wind Farm
Dates: Access to site June 2008, Substantial completion November 2008

EUS completed the 34.5kV electrical collection and fiber optic systems for Phase 1 of the Kent Hills Wind Farm, a 96MW farm owned by TransAlta. The collection and fiber optic system consisted of a combined 22 linear kilometers of overhead and underground and tied into a 34.5kV/138kV substation.

Emera Utility Services - Transmission Construction & Maintenance

EUS constructed a 70km 138kV transmission line on wood structures from GDF Suez’s 100MW West Cape Wind Farm in Prince Edward Island to the Summerside substation.

The ability of EUS to ramp up emergency crews quickly has been of benefit to several utilities in the Northeast, including Nova Scotia Power, Central Maine Power, Maritime Electric, and National Grid. Our primary markets are Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, Prince Edward Island, Newfoundland and the Northeastern United States. EUS provides emergency response and restoration services to organizations that require additional operating resources.

Emera Utility Services - Substation & Control Building Construction

The scope of substation work in Atlantic Canada completed by EUS since 2007 includes greenfield construction on wind farms and other sites, and maintenance and upgrades to existing substations. Construction activities included Civil, Grounding, Control Cabling, Control Building, 34.5kV Electrical Equipment, 138kV electrical equipment and the main power transformer.
