How does that expression go, “If you can remember Woodstock, you probably weren’t there…”?  Allusions to mind altering-music enhancements aside, the 1960′s is probably best remembered as an era that gave rise to one of the most creative decades in music history.  The British Invasion took center stage, ushering in a period of unprecedented experimentation.  The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, Cream, and The Who all took North America by storm.  Many of these bands sought to take rock in wild new directions.  The Mamas & The Papas, The Beach Boys, and Jefferson Airplane created what would be known as the California sound.

While the entire decade was ripe with artists that would change music forever, I would argue that the most important contribution to pop music actually came from Detroit.  A collection of artists that formed the “Motown” sound left an imprint on music that is nearly incalculable.  Diana Ross & The Supremes, The Jackson 5, The Four Tops, and The Temptations are just a few of these artists.  Nearly every piece of popular dance music today owes a huge debt to the smooth dance beats and melodic hooks that came out of Detroit in the mid-sixties.

Here is a list of some of the best that the decade had to offer:

Wedding Tips « Dance Caravan DJ Service

Many people choose to follow this with dance that begins with parents and bridal party, then ask the DJ or MC to invite other guests to join in part way through. This is usually harmless, but you may want to be careful that soap does not accumulate on the dance floor, since someone could fall and be injured.
