Kaiser Aluminum offers aluminum plate, sheet and coil products specially tailored for the aerospace and high-strength market. These products can be created from the following alloy selections:

A high-purity version of 2024 with tighter controls on the iron and silicon for an increase in strength and toughness. Primarily used as aluminum plate in the aircraft industry.

Is readily weldable and useful for applications over a temperature range of -450° to 600°F. It has high fracture toughness and the T* temper is highly resistant to stress and corrosion cracking. Corrosion cracking used in welded space fuel tanks, supersonic aircraft skin and structure components.

Very good corrosion resistance and finishability plus excellent weldablity and a strength level similar to mild steel, this is a popular general-purpose alloy. Machinability is good and, in the annealed state, its workability carries a high rating, staying in the “good” level if heat-treated without aging. Typical end uses are general tool and jig plate, aircraft landing mats, storage tanks and highway signs.

High–strength alloy particularly in heavier plate thickness, with superior stress corrosion resistance. Readily welded only by the resistance method. Fair machinability and poor workability. Typically used as aluminum plate in the aircraft industry.

One of the highest strength, commercially available alloys with fair corrosion resistance and machinability. Low workability rating and welded only by resistance process. Typically used for aircraft skins, cowls and structures.

Basically, high purity versions of 7075 with tighter control on the iron and silicon for an increase in strength and toughness. Primarily used in the aircraft industry.

High strength, even at relatively high temperatures, satisfactory finishability, fair to good workability and weldability, and good machinability. With only fair corrosion resistance, this alloy must have protective finishing in most environments and is usually used in Alclad form. Thought of as the “aircraft” alloy because of its strength, the alloy has only fair corrosion resistance but good machinability.
