Dredging has become an increasingly important and complex environmental service since we started operations. At one time, most of our dredging contracts were for tailings relocation and displacement of lime hydroxide.

However with industry trends towards environmentalism and tougher regulations, applications for our services have multiplied.

Currently, the market for dredging has expanded to include the pulp and paper industry, municipal cleaning, marinas, beach restoration, canals, power companies, manufacturing, and government.

The applications for dredging at these facilities are varied and include;

  • Silt, sludge and suspended solids removal/relocation from industrial water bodies. Ex: lime hydroxide and alum sludge.
  • Relocation of sand and sediment from municipal waterways, marinas, and canals.
  • Highly acidic and toxic/hazardous sludge removal/relocation such as tailings and nickel sludge (Jarocite).
  • Biological sludge removal/relocation from pulp spoil ponds, municipal waste water treatment lagoons, and dairy spoil lagoons.
  • Silt, sand, and sediment removal/relocation from inlets, rivers, ponds, lakes, and other inland bodies of water.
  • Pumping of sludge to dewatering plants.

As diversified as the market has become, one thing remains the same; you want the best value for your money. Our focus, here at CGEI, is to guarantee you that value.

Not only do we own and operate a fleet of MC-915 Mud Cats, but we also have a number of 370 Ellicott Dragon dredges and a multifunction, independently-designed Aquamaster.

Add that to an extensive fleet of support equipment, supporting divisions, and all of our years of experience and you’ve got the means to get the job done. Now add pre-job site visits, lab efficiency testing and seasoned, professional dredge operators and you’ve got more than simply a means, you’ve got an assurance of quality and efficiency.

Our Mud Cats operate on a main cable/winch system. They advance along a cable that spans the length of the pond. After each cut, the dredging pass is shifted either to port or starboard by use of a come-along pulley system. Likewise, our Ellicott Dragons operate on a cable/winch system however two winches control the sweep of the cut and advancement while one rear winch releases cable to allow advancement.

To complement this equipment we also own and operate a fleet of booster stations and McElroy pipe fusers. The booster stations increase the pumping distance and head of our dredges. McElroy pipe fusers weld HDPE pipe into one solid discharge line. This solid, leak-proof line is highly resistant to pipe breakages and is assembled quickly during the job setup phase.

The single, most undeniable factor that separates us from competitors is our experience. In 40 years, we have realized that every job, even one in the same pond, is different and has its own challenges.

In response to this, we have developed techniques and technology which allow us to dredge a single layer of material among many and to operate with no risk of damaging pond liners. CGEI has developed highly tuned training to facilitate process control dredging. The result is constantly high concentrations per volume of sludge being pumped (Critical in Dewatering Applications). These concentrations are monitored by flow meter systems which are adapted to the dredge frame. We also employ a dredging GPS system which ensures that only one clean sweep of an area is needed to reach required depth.
At CGEI we realize that your time is important.

You want the job done right, you want a fair price, and you want it done yesterday. Because all of our equipment is transported on roadways there are no delays. We can be on your site tomorrow setting up the operation. Once on site our proactively trained staff goes right to work, often times completing the setup within a day. They are trained to identify problems before they strike in order to ensure non-stop operation from job beginning to end. It is also company policy to have a mechanic on each crew to keep things running smoothly. In the event of a breakdown, we can have the equipment replaced in a matter of hours. Our motto is no excuses, just solutions. As such, all work done by Consolidated Giroux Environment Inc. is satisfaction guaranteed
