General Benefits of Mulching:

Layers of mulch form an excellent weed barrier and cooler root zone for vigorous growth. Mulch reduces evaporation for less watering and helps prevent soil erosion. It is recommended that you apply 2”– 4” of mulch to maximize the benefits.

There are two different types of mulch – Shredded Bark and Wood, both providing the above mentioned general benefits as well as their own distinctive benefits.

Shredded Bark Mulch: consists of mainly bark (80-90%), which will break down within 2-5 years. As it breaks down, mulch will add to your soil, improving the over-all soil structire while maintaining all of the general benefits listed above. Our mulch has good weight characteristics for staying in place. Most people like to top up a little each year to keep that fresh look; to maintain all the benefits, is it important to refresh your mulch every few years.  We recommend that you come in to see the different mulches before ordering, as the major difference between them are simply the way they look. We have 9 shredded bark mulches to choose from:

Pine Mulch

Red Enhanced Pine

Red Enhanced Cedar

Gold Enhanced Cedar

Chocolate Cedar

Black Enhanced Mulch

Red Enhanced Wood Mulch

Hemlock Mulch

Contractor’s Mulch

Red Wood Mulch: consists of 100% clean wood, ground to a uniform size. Coloured with safe iron oxide pigment that is visually appealing. The colour is 90% retained the first year and loses 30% per year thereafter. This type of mulch will not break down as quickly as bark mulches but you will need to reapply to compensate for the loss of colour every 2-3 years.
