GEA Barr-Rosin offers a diverse range of direct and indirect rotary dryers, all custom engineered to suit specific requirements.

The directly heated rotary dryer operates on the principle of lifting and showering the product through a hot gas stream moving either in parallel or counter-flow.

In the indirect dryer, which is more suited to fine and dusty materials, there is little or no contact between the product and the drying gases since they are heated from the outside, via a stationary jacket fitted with either multiple burners or other external heat source.

Noted for their flexibility and heavy construction, rotary dryers are less sensitive to wide fluctuations in throughput and product size.

For greater thermal efficiency and where inertisation is required, recycling of exhaust gases can be used. This can be implemented on all our airstream drying systems and retrofitted on customer's existing drying operations.

Sizes start from small units under 2 ft (0.6 m) but may exceed 14 ft (4.2 m) in diameter and 100 ft (30 m) length, with evaporative capacities up to 30-40 tonnes per hour.

Rotary dryers are suitable for a wide variety of products, ranging from granular, powdered and crystalline materials, through to filter cakes and sludges for the food, chemical and mineral industries.

Rotary coolers are either of the counter-flow cascade type, for coarse and granular materials or are indirectly water cooled for fine and dusty products.

Rotary calciners may be of the direct-fired refractory lined or unlined type, or indirectly heated in the same way as the dryers.

Superheated Steam Processor (SSP

The solids are fed into the flow of pressurised superheated transport steam by means of a pressure tight rotary valve, plug screw or similar. The Superheated Steam Processor can be used for drying and/or heat treatment of many products. The Superheated Steam Processor is a closed loop pneumatic conveying system.


Products - Fluid Bed Dryer

The process air is supplied to the bed through a special perforated distributor plate and flows through the bed of solids at a velocity sufficient to support the weight of particles in a fluidized state. Very high heat and mass transfer values are obtained as a result of the intimate contact with the solids and the differential velocities between individual particles and the fluidizing gas.


Ring Dryer

For slurries, pastes, or sticky materials, our specifically designed feed system allows backmixing of the wet feed with a portion of dry product to produce a suitable conditioned material for feeding into the dryer. This selective extension of residence time enables the Ring Dryer to process many materials which were traditionally regarded as difficult to dry in a Flash Dryer.


Flash Dryer - Pneumatic Drying System

Elevated drying temperatures can be used with many products since the flashing off of surface moisture instantly cools the drying gas without appreciably increasing the product temperature. For slurries, pastes, or sticky materials, backmixing of the wet feed with a portion of dry product to produce a suitable conditioned material is required.
