Cedar is an extremely durable wood that offers natural insulation properties which surpass other siding materials such as brick, asphalt and PVC. It is also a dimensionally stable wood that lies flat and stays straight. These characteristics, combined with cedar’s excellent acoustic properties and natural preservatives that fight off the ravages of fungi, humidity and insects make our cedar shingles from Fraser Wood Siding the natural choice for any architectural or aesthetic design.
Our Fraser Wood Siding cedar products are available in either Eastern White or Western Red in a full range of designer shapes and in natural or factory-stained finishes.
Factory Finished Products
We pride ourselves on the quality of our shingle products and Fraser Wood Siding’s Eastern White Cedar shingles are manufactured following one of the industry’s strictest production processes. Premium mills in Quebec and New Brunswick supply us with re-squared and rebutted (R&R) shingles, which enter our state-of-the-art dehumidification dry kiln.
Our shingles are then packaged and shipped in a natural finish, or in a 100% acrylic factory finish from Cabot that coats all six sides of the shingle.Eastern White Cedar shingles are available in a full range of designer shapes and colors. Factory-stained shingles are U.V. stable, water-repellant and mildew resistant with a 20 year warranty against cracking, peeling or blistering.Eastern White
Eastern White Cedar (Thuja occidentalis) is found in all eastern Canadian provinces and extends westerly to eastern Manitoba. It is sometimes referred to as eastern cedar, northern white cedar or arborvitae (tree of life). While it occasionally reaches a height of 80 feet and a diameter at breast-height of 3 feet, it is generally a comparatively small tree about one foot in diameter and 45 feet in height. It is usually found in low swampy ground, but also grows in limestone ridges with shallow soil. The wood has a pleasant odor and is very lightweight once kiln dried. The heartwood is a light brown and the sapwood is very light in color. It is comparatively soft, has a fine and even texture and splits readily.
Western Red Cedar shingles are available in a variety of designer shapes and colors, making them a natural choice for any architectural or aesthetic design.
About the wood
Western Red Cedar (Thuja plicata) grows in coastal forests and in the drier interior forests of British Columbia, Washington, Idaho and Montana. It is British Columbia’s official tree and is also known as canoe-cedar, pacific red-cedar, shinglewood or arborvitae (tree of life). In its natural, unfinished state, Western Red Cedar has a richly textured grain. Its warm, mellow color tones range from light amber to deep honey brown. It remains subtly aromatic, and the characteristic fragrance of cedar adds another dimension to its universal appeal.Western Red Cedar is an extremely durable wood that contains natural oils that act as preservatives to help the wood resist insect attack and decay. It is also a dimensionally stable wood that lies flat and stays straight. These characteristics, combined with Western Red Cedar’s natural insulation properties make shingles made from this versatile wood a preferred material for outdoor applications.
Fraser Wood Siding has been one of North America’s foremost suppliers of quality wood siding and cedar shingles for more than 15 years. In areas where natural wood may not be the most effective choice, Fraser Wood Siding complements its product line by custom staining fiber cement shingles.
Fiber cement shingles effectively simulate the look of wood while providing the durability of cement. Fiber cement shingles, which can be sourced through one of our manufacturing associates, are machine coated at our facility using Cabot’s proven Factory Finish© process and are available in two finishes—C3 WoodTones or C3 Solid Colors.Coated on all six sides
Fiber cement shingles are coated in our plant using the “Flow-Thru” process. All six sides of the shingle are coated to ensure the maximum protection from nature’s elements. The result is an exceptionally fade-resistant and washable finish. No more delays—shingles are ready to install
