Environmental Monitoring

Forsite environmental monitoring programs are developed based on risk to the environment and governing regulations to ensure that meaningful protection is provided through efficient monitoring and mitigation activities. Forsite has performed comprehensive environmental monitoring programs that include all aspects of water resource, fisheries and wildlife values.  Work includes all aspects of permit acquisition, compliance reporting (i.e. Department of Fisheries and Oceans and the Ministry of Environment), development of Environmental Management Plans and Sediment Drainage Management Plans, supervising stream diversions, fish salvage/relocation, on-site monitoring, completing fish habitat restoration and enhancement prescriptions, and completing monitoring reports or final inspections/reports.

Environmental monitoring involves the tracking of terrestrial or aquatic conditions and potential impacts of development or construction activities.

Forsite also offers general environmental support services that include data management, radio telemetry including tagging and aerial/ground tracking, fish and terrestrial vertebrate surveys, plant surveys, species-at-risk assessments, and research project design, implementation and analysis.

Regulatory Liaison:

Environmental Monitoring ensures that work is carried out in compliance with applicable regulations and legislation. Monitoring also assists in minimizing the impacts of work near sensitive ecosystems, such as fish habitat, and provides due diligence working in and around those ecosystems. Forsite ensures the following steps are provided as part of their environmental monitoring and regulatory liaison process:

  • All applicable environmental permits and approvals to proceed with construction are in place;

  • Review environmental plan with applicable contractors;

  • Observe site conditions prior and during works;

  • Evaluate effectiveness of sediment control measures;

  • Carry out appropriate measures to protect fish species; and

  • Maintain communications with regulatory bodies on project progress.

Ecosystem Restoration:

Forsite's wildlife and species-at-risk specialists provide ecosystem restoration services to government and industry clients.  Based on the understanding of site-specific targets as well as current and projected ecological conditions our professional and technical staff work together to develop cost effective and operationally realistic ecosystem restoration programs. Our experience covers all aspects of ecosystem restoration including site selection, prescription development, and field and office supervision of all associated activities.
