Your Child's Eyes
Studies have shown that 80% of learning takes place through vision! Children as young as six months can be checked and accurately diagnosed. At six months old, the optometrist will test eye movement ability as well as eye health problems. By age 3, your child should have their second thorough eye exam. The optometrist will reassess your child's visual system to confirm the absence of any eye disease, as well as monitor the continued growth and efficiency of their visual skill development. The next exam should take place before their first day of school and then continue annually. Keep in mind that with early detection and treatment, many vision problems are reversible and in some cases preventable.

As You Age (40+)
As your golden years approach, it is especially important to make regular eye exams to maintain good health and vision. There are common conditions you and your Optometrist need to look for. Here are some most common and troubling conditions:

is very common among this age group. It is the loss of ability to change focus from far to near.
Glaucoma can result when excessive fluid pressures damage the optic nerve. It is one of the leading causes of blindness in Canada. It can be effectively treated and early detection is key.
Cataracts occur as the lens becomes cloudy, dimming your vision. Cataracts are most often found in persons over the age of 55. This condition often requires a corrective lens change or surgical removal.
Macular Degeneration is a disease that obscures a person's central field of vision. It is the leading cause of vision loss and blindness for seniors in North America. Early detection is key in managing this disease.

In their early stages, many conditions associated with aging may not cause symptoms or create problems, and therefore, can go undetected. Regular optometric care is vital.
