Crowns are restorations that completely cover the outside of a tooth to the gumline . They are made of metal, porcelain, or a combination of both. They are cemented or bonded to teeth to maximize their function and resistance to fracture. Crowns can build up worn teeth, repair broken teeth and replace large broken or decayed fillings.

Bridges replace a missing tooth or teeth. The missing teeth are attached to crowns (for the teeth on either side of the space) and when cemented, are not removable. Since these teeth are connected to each other, floss must be threaded underneath to clean between the bridge teeth. It is an excellent tooth replacement if the teeth on either side of the space are heavily filled.

As the active ingredient in the gel, carbamide or hydrogen peroxide is broken down; oxygen enters the enamel and dentin and bleaches the darkened surface. Some of the concerns with the strips are that they are not properly fitted to your teeth and can cause burning of the gums and ingestion of the product. The dentist either uses power bleaching that can whiten your teeth in about 1 – 2 hours, or customize a clear tray to fit on your teeth.
