Small Steps | Coach

I feel a little rusty, but felt compelled to share one of my monkey mind’s gazillion book worthy thoughts. Here goes.

As my little sweetpea blessed me with a few moments of down time today (yes, his naps are that short!), I thought to myself: “Uhm, what do I do with myself now?!” Ah, the pressure to perform and live to the last drop, even in these scarce, precious moments! Eesh.

What is a very small thing I can do in very little time to experience meaning and well being, r i g h t  n o w? No projects. No medium or long term commitments. No procrastination.

And since I have a very real and personal understanding of time as an obstacle to living juicy, I thought I’d share with you some of the ideas that came to mind:

  • Pick any book from your collection, open it on a random page, put your finger down anywhere on it and read. What does it inspire? It doesn’t really matter. The point is you experienced a nourishing moment. Moments make a lifetime!
  • Take at least 3 consecutive deeeeeeeeeep breaths (where you exhale as loud as you can / want to). Aaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhh. Let it go. We all need to. Repeat.
  • Do a little dance. If you’re into creative expression, what simple movement – or series of – reflects where you’re at right now, this instant? Don’t think about it. Just let your body do the talking / thinking.
  • Have a Small Moments of Goodness jar ready where you can randomly pick ideas for these kinds of small actions whenever you have a few seconds of free time, but no idea what to do with yourself. This is one of my favourites.

Change | Coach

It’s no surprise, consequently, that when I attempt to create change in my life, I often get off to a strong procrastinating start, thinking “I just don’t have the time, money, energy to deal with the struggle of changing”. Dance keeps us open to the hidden instruments, the subtle sounds that seek our expression from the other side…When your visionary ability feels hampered, dance yourself back to life…Put on a good song and let it happen.. It reminded me of how synchronicity and random conversations with strangers were a regular thing in my life when I lived in the city and walked everywhere.


YES to Me! | Coach

After all, if most of us are striving for personal balance in our lives, what better way to achieve this than to counterbalance all the negativity we are bombarded with on a daily basis: on the news; radio; outbreak scares, and an implicit belief that it’s pompous to toot your horn.


Do it NOW | Coach

Whenever I notice myself avoiding or resisting acting on something I actually want to do, I pay close attention to my excuses or even valid reasons for why I just can’t start now: feeling too unexperienced, knowledgeable or equipped; not knowing where to start; perfectionism, etc. Do you ever find yourself suddenly doing the dishes, tidying up or pretty much anything BUT work on a desirable goal once you’ve decided to create change in your life.

Get a hold of either a Bristol board, magnetic board or a large blank painting canvas – whatever inspires you most and can be put up for you to observe on a regular basis. Also called a Vision Board or Treasure Map, A Dream Board is basically a collage or other form of visual representation of your goals and dreams. Colorful images that make you feel fantastic or get you thinking about what life could be like if it were you in that picture.
