CALSTAR 6 commenced operations at the South Lake Tahoe Airport in October of 2001. The base is located in the heart of the Sierra Nevada Mountains within the Lake Tahoe basin and provides EMS air medical services to both Northern California and Northern Nevada 24/7.

The terrain in which we operate is diverse. We utilize a BO 105LS/C-30 converted to navigate flights as high as 20,000 feet above sea level. Small and capable, the 105 can transport two patients at a time and needs only a small footprint to land. This is especially important when operating in the mountains. It also uses night vision goggles (NVG), which enhance our ability to operate safely at night when light is limited or altogether absent.

Because of our location within a resort community and recreational area, our missions change with the seasons. During the summer, we can be found responding to injured hikers, boaters, cyclers and horseback riders. During the winter months, we transition to providing medical support to local ski patrols. The changing population and remote locations can challenge the EMS and medical community. That is why CALSTAR 6 continuously trains with local fire departments, EMS, law enforcement agencies and local hospitals to provide the safest and fastest medical care to our community and its visitors.

Our company's nonprofit community service model is about being a good neighbor and giving back to the community we serve. CALSTAR 6 can often be seen working with local schools and our local hospital, Barton Memorial Hospital, providing health education to students and the community. In addition we work closely with area search and rescue teams to aid them in their missions.

Of course we appreciate the support our community gives back to us. We are particularly grateful to:
