Fearless Monologues: One Day Workshop:
Sunday Dec. 4th (10 – 5 p.m). Cost: 90 + hst .
Instructor. Jeni Gunn.

In this dynamic workshop, Actors will supply a monologue (please see below for monologue criteria) of their choice. During the workshop, we will address key aspects of the monologue from the self-casting process, rehearsing, producing and finally…performance.

Here are a few of the topics covered:
• A good monologue never stands alone, but rather is a reply, or response to an event. Discover the emotional cues of the monologue- both in the unspoken “moment before” and after- that motivates the text.
• 15 things that will kill your monologue, and how to avoid them!
• This is a solo; therefore you are the only instrument available in making this piece your own. Learn criteria on how to discern if a piece is in your “range” and how to play it fully.
• Preparation, preparation, preparation. 10 effective strategies to attack your monologue!
• Monologues every Actor should flee from.
• Honor the intention of the text.

Fearless Monologues will benefit Actors just starting out, as well as fill in the blanks and deepen the process of the previously trained Actor. Each Actor will have the opportunity to approach their monologue from several angles, using different tools, and with this experience- will complete the class confidant he can tame any monologue he chooses!

Monologue Criteria for the purposes of this class:
• Maximum 2 minutes in length.
• Sourced from a contemporary film or theatre production. No poetry, spoken word, stand-up, handwritten, or cobbled together ‘speeches’ will be accepted.
• No blatantly offensive material without supporting artistic merit. Use your judgement, please.
• Please avoid any piece requiring a distinct dialect, unless you are already fluent in that dialect. Time constraints prevent us from addressing the additional requirements that mastering dialect presents.
• Age appropriate.
• The most important quality is your connection with the text on an emotional level. Ideally, the writing should move you, provoke your soul and inspire your passion to tell a story that must be told!

Sunday November 27th. Times: 10 a.m. – 5.30 p.m. Times: 9.30 – 5.30. (Limited enrollment)

Cost 140 + 12% hst. = 156.80. Open to ages 12+ – 80!
