Typically, authors want to know up front how much it will cost to have their work edited. If you just want your work to be edited, proofread and nicely formatted, the cost is $800 for the first 35,000 words and 2 cents for every additional word. The cost is the same whether your book requires substantive editing or just copy editing.
If you want your work to be edited, and then taken right through to the publishing stage, simply multiply by 15 the number of pages of single-spaced text in your manuscript as it exists when you submit it for editing. For example, for an 8.5″ x 11″ manuscript that contains 100 single-spaced typewritten pages, with no illustrations, the total cost to edit, format and publish it as a typical 200 page paperback book will be approximately $1,500.
