A session with one of our physiotherapists includes an assessment, treatment, as well as education and home exercises. All sessions are approximately 1 hour in length.
The therapist will begin with an initial, in-depth assessment in one of our private treatment rooms. This examination will include a subjective history, followed by a thorough, detailed musculoskeletal and neurological assessment. Our belief at Easthill Physiotherapy is that, in order to accurately diagnose a condition or injury, we must think holistically; that is, that the body is a whole integral structure, and how each area may be influencing dysfunction elsewhere. Therefore during the assessment you can expect that your therapist will not just be focusing on the symptomatic area of the body.
Once the examination has been completed, the therapist will discuss the findings with you and decide on the most effective treatment approach. We believe in educating our patients about their particular injuries and are very open to any questions or concerns that may arise.
All of our treatments are manual therapy based, always. This means the therapist will be providing hands-on therapy to treat your condition. All of our physiotherapists have extensive training and skill in manual therapy techniques. These techniques are varied and are the most effective and efficient way at promoting health and recovery from an injury.
Following the manual treatment, the therapist will discuss ways to manage your injury, the follow up plan and provide the appropriate home exercises.
If subsequent sessions are needed, the physiotherapist will discuss this with you. During a subsequent treatment, the therapist will always re-assess your condition, and provide the appropriate treatment, education and exercises as needed.
Combination Acupuncture and Physiotherapy
Physiotherapy and Acupuncture are complimentary therapies and we have experienced great results in doing so. Often during one treatment session the therapist may combine the two approaches when appropriate and beneficial for a particular condition.
Acupuncture is used to treat a wide variety of conditions, such as digestive and respiratory disorders, neurological and muscular problems, headaches, neck and back pain, tennis elbow, tendonitis, sciatica, arthritis, urinary, menstrual and fertility disorders, addictions and insomnia.
We follow both a Chinese medicine and Anatomical approach to acupuncture. Both methods of acupuncture stimulate the body to produce endorphins, which are natural pain relieving chemicals that block pathways that relay pain messages from the body to the brain. This results in relief of pain, general relaxation and biochemical restoration of the body’s own internal regulation systems. The improved energy and biochemical balance that results stimulates the body’s own natural healing abilities, reduces inflammation and promotes physical health

Athlete Injury Prevention Assessments
This is a one hour sport-specific assessment performed by one of our physiotherapists. Injury prevention strategies are essential for the early detection of abnormalities such as muscle imbalance, poor muscle control and lack of flexibility to prevent injury from occurring. This is a great option for athletes, pre and post season, to physically prepare for competition, ultimately preventing performance limiting injuries.
The assessment will focus on strength, flexibility, proprioception/stability, biomechanics and movement analysis. Based on the findings, each athlete will be provided with a personalized injury prevention training program to address the limitations.
Please contact our office staff to book an appointment with Derek Geldrich for this service.
Our belief at Easthill Physiotherapy is that education is the key to injury prevention. We are pleased to offer on-site presentations to office staff, athletic groups, schools, and businesses. We can create a unique educational seminar for your staff, clients or athletes on specific issue or topic needing to be addressed in your workplace or athletic environment.
Topics may include proper workplace ergonomics and injury prevention, to educational in-services on sports injuries and training errors, to the benefits of physiotherapy and acupuncture for optimal health and well-being.
Please contact our office staff to discuss and arrange a presentation.
IMS – Intramuscular Stimulation
IMS is an effective treatment with very few side-effects. This needling technique was developed by Dr. Chan Gunn of the Institute for the Study and Treatment of Pain. This technique uses acupuncture needles to treat pain of a neuropathic origin or nerve dysfunction.
This leads to abnormal shortening of the muscles and can lead to such conditions as tendonitis. Shortening of muscles or tendons across a joint can lead to excessive wear and tear on the joints thus causing early osteoarthritis.
This type of needling technique acts to release the muscles thus resulting in pain relief, stimulate healing and promote normal joint mechanics.
