If your delegates can't understand – have you  wasted their time and money?

Everyone attending an “international” conference probably speaks some English – but many of them are not really proficient enough to pick up the details or nuances of the presentations. For that they need to listen in their own language.

The Language Bureau provides conference interpreters for many international events in Vancouver and British Columbia every year – from large conferences in medical, technical and professional fields; training seminars in remote locations; international arbitration requiring capability in both legal and conference interpreting; small conferences for business and government; right down to individual interpreters for individual delegates attending major events.

Conference interpreting presents the ultimate challenge in the interpreting profession. The work calls for great proficiency, concentration and mental agility. Conference interpreters always work in pairs or trios. We can provide Vancouver-based teams that perform to a high international standard in a dozen languages including French, Spanish, Portuguese, Mandarin and Cantonese.

In addition to a strong base of interpreters in Vancouver, we draw on conference interpreters from all over North America. For a list of languages that we can provide from Vancouvr please see the Table of Interpreters under Our Languages. For small conferences, we provide individuals in many other languages who have had considerable experience with both simultaneous and consecutive interpreting in court.

We also provide pre-conference translation, on-site conference translation and a certain amount of interpreter’s equipment for small conferences.      5516-20EN5)

Interpreter Equipment | The Language Bureau

Simultaneous interpreting generally requires some specific equipment – a sound isolation booth for the interpreters, earphones so that the interpreters hear exactly what is said and earphones for the listeners – and microphones, and amplifiers, and wiring, and transmitters and so on.

Conference Interpreters | The Language Bureau

Simultaneous interpretation requires the rapid transference from one language to another, often of a highly technical subject matter, without affording the interpreter any possibility of looking up references or consulting with a colleague; without time to analyse the speaker’s utterances.

Services for Lawyers | The Language Bureau

To them we offer a full range of legal interpreting and translating for critical requirements. When reliability and accuracy are important. When life, liberty or property are at risk.

Interpreters for the Law | The Language Bureau

In the US it seems to mean primarily Federally Certified Court Interpreters but includes other categories who aspire to federal certification but are not yet there. Canada Immigration tests interpreters and calls them “Certified” which makes it difficult at first glance to determine which certification they hold. Court Interpreter” is a person who works in court or, by court appointment, in other judicial proceedings outside the courtroom.

Training and Testing | The Language Bureau

We have conducted evaluations of several hundred practising interpreters, identified their problem areas and created training courses to bring their employers (our clients) into compliance with Federal regulations. For some years we have designed, produced and delivered interpreting examinations – for community services, health care, and court – for clients in Alaska, British Columbia and elsewhere.

The Law | The Language Bureau

If there is a question as to exactly what was meant by words spoken or written in a foreign language, we can find experts that can clarify regional and local variations within many languages, including especially, but not limited to, Spanish. We have served various Courts, State and Federal Public Defenders in the United States, Crown and defence Counsel in Canada, and various Plaintiff's and Defense Counsel in civil matters.
