This project was originally started as a commission for a full body bust of a Corgi/Manchester Terrier cross, bred as a hearing aid dog. Unfortunately, near the end of the process I received an email stating the client had to withdraw the commission due to health problems and expected hospital bills, and was never heard from again. Since I had already started it, had a strong idea of what it would look like when I finished it, and a passion to push my limits as a sculptor, I finished it anyways.
It is custom hand sculpted from Brazilian Soapstone, using traditional hand tools and carving blades. Polished with multiple grades of sandpaper then warm-polished by hand with natural beeswax to bring out the beauty of the stone.
This is great as a mantle piece or sculpture for your space anywhere. Fine attention was paid to musculature, facial features, and realism right down to the claws on its paws. It is 15" long, 5 1/2" wide, and 6 1/2" tall at the ears. I've displayed this piece in a few shows now, and have experimented with allowing people to touch the sculpture. When people realize the stone kind of feels soft to the touch, they just love to pet it like a real dog!
