Some of the potential applications that are currently being explored by FORPAC are:Anti-Microbial Agents & Preservatives
FORPAC is in the early stages of commercializing several important tropolone compounds known for their potent anti-microbial activity. In several recent papers, tropolones such as Hinokitiol and Nootkatin have displayed broad-spectrum anti-microbial activity against a range of problematic pathogens, including virulent strains of MRSA (Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus) and Candida albicans.
Pesticides & Insect Repellents
FORPAC is in the early stages of targeting two compounds that have displayed strong activity against a number of arthropods and have commercial application as preventative controls for vector-borne diseases. The eremophilane compound, Epinootkatol, has shown strong activity as a pesticide against Ixodes scapularis , which is the causative agent of Lyme Disease. Similarly, the tropilidene derivative Thuja Amide, has been demonstrated to outperform DEET as a control for the prominent mosquito species, Aedes aegypti.Fine Fragrances & Flavours
FORPAC is also producing a large number of different fine fragrance and flavor compounds. The Company has developed methods for the purification of alpha-Thujone, an important aroma chemical that is used in major commercial fragrances such as those by Ralph Lauren and Hugo Boss. FORPAC is also commercializing the compound Nootkatone, which is a critical flavoring ingredient that imparts a very desirable citrus-flavor to food and beverage products.
