Dalkia Canada | Renewable energy
Fighting against climate change and saving energy has been Dalkia's business and vocation for decades. Dalkia encourages the use of renewable energy and innovative solutions where and when they are available and most suitable to the business. Such solutions have included over the years improved combustion technologies, treatment of flue gases, geothermal energy, biomass, cogeneration, industrial heat recovery, waste energy recovery, solar and wind energy. Dalkia understands that the Triple Bottom Line, economic, environmental and societal benefits, is achieved through the deployment of renewable energy.
Benefits for the Customers and the Society
Renewable energy provides major benefits to the community:
- a valuable and attractive substitute for fossil fuels,
- significant reductions in carbon dioxide emissions,
- improved air quality
- risk reduction for future energy price volatility and increase
From fuel sourcing and procurement, design, finance and build to operating over the long term, you can count on Dalkia to manage your green energy portfolio with the assurance of reliability, and performance. We will advise you on possible grants and incentives.
We partner with customers in finding custom renewable energy solutions to their strategic challenges, continually adapting to their evolving needs and their directions for a more energy and environmentally friendly operation.
Biomass, as a renewable energy source, refers to the use of living materials as a substitute to traditional fossil fuel. Biomass fuels come in many forms, from waste food products, sustainable forests and recycled materials. All these fuel sources are carbon neutral because they are derived from plants that removed CO2 from the atmosphere when they were growing - therefore contributing no CO2 to the environment.
A Global Expert in Biomass: In 2010, Dalkia managed over 1,381 MW biomass plants that powered healthcare, residential, higher education and commercial facilities, as well as municipalities and industrial sites. Dalkia manages the largest biomass plant in Europe featuring 69 MW(e).
Solar Thermal or Photovoltaic
Solar energy offers concrete answers to today's energy problems. The rays of the sun are captured by a set of mirrors and concentrated to heat liquid beyond 400 degrees. When transferred to water, the heat produces steam that in turn drives a turbine and generates electricity. Apart from generating zero pollution, a thermal storage system means that electricity can be produced even when there is no sun.
Dalkia continues the promotion of this technology from small to large (10 MWe) solar systems, within the public and private sectors.
Geothermal or geoexchange consists in using the earth as a transfer medium for energy, either heating or cooling.
Dalkia operates 24 geothermal plants including 10 on district heating projects and the oldest is 40 years old.
Dalkia is an expert in energy generation for both electricity and heat from biomass under performance-based contracts. Biogas is a renewable energy source that can be used as fuel for heating or in a cogeneration plant to produce both heat and electricity. Dalkia - your Partner in recovering energy from biogas produced by methanization of industrial effluents.
