One Horned Goat - Eagle Aerie Gallery, The Art of Roy Henry Vickers

The One Horned Goat is the first legend that was read to me in elementary school. It was in grade 4 at Hazelton Amalgamated School and the
story is about the local mountain landmark that we call Stegyawden. The ancient town of Temlaham that was destroyed by the goats
on the mountain because of the cruelty shown to a little goat. The legend has been interpreted and published many times. My rendition of the goat is one of many as masks, characters on totems, drawings, blanket designs, and carved spoons.

Surfer's Delight - Eagle Aerie Gallery, The Art of Roy Henry Vickers

The home I owned in Tofino had a fabricated furnace in the basement with a surfer image cut out of steel and applied to the door because the previous owner loved to surf. I still enjoy the intimate contact with the sea, sitting on a surf board waiting for a good wave to carry me away. I learned that surfers from far away places came to surf the Matlahaw break on the Hesquiaht Peninsula.

Whale Rider - Eagle Aerie Gallery, The Art of Roy Henry Vickers

For others the Whale is one of the four main crest of each village along with Eagle, Raven, and Wolf. For the people of Tofino and the visitors from around the world, the whale is one of the greatest experiences in the wild. For myself, I am a member of the Fireweed Whale Clan of Kispiox in the House of Qeel, the head chief of the village of Kispiox.
