The Hotspot offers several free services for community organizations wanting an Internet presence. We offer:
These sites are very easy to set up and maintain even for groups with few technical resources. Groups are provided with a template that can be customized with the
colours and graphics that represent their group. Authorized members
can log in to the website from any computer and edit the content within
their Internet Browser (such as Internet Explorer or Mozilla Firefox).
No special website editing software is required, and knowledge of
website design or html is not needed. The Hotspot can provide technical assistance and training for your community group to set up and maintain the website.
Static web hosting.
We offer the Linux/Apache/Mysql/PHP/Perl/Python stack for community groups who have more complicated wishes. This service provides you with database hosting and includes FTP & Secure Shell (ssh) access to upload and maintain PHP or CGI scripts & applications.
All Website Hosting includes:
The ability to host your own domain name (i.e. www.ourcommunitygroup.org). Note that for this you must register the domain name separately using a domain name registrar ($10-$20/year).
The Hotspot provides List-Serves as an extremely handy communication tool for Non Profit Groups. These lists can be set up for private communication between board members, or be used as open discussion lists or promotion circuits. For example, the Squamish Arts Council utilizes our list-serve to enable members of the corridor's arts and culture community to share information about local arts events and opportunities, while the Squamish Downtown Neighbourhood Association utilizes their list-serve to set meeting dates and share files and minutes between their board of directors.
