Originally from Hamburg, Germany, Michael immigrated to the United States and became an U.S. Citizen in 1958. Adrian, Michigan became his adopted home. Currently, he and his wife Nancy reside in Sylvania, Ohio.
Michael received a degree in art and design from Ferris State University in 1966 and was immediately inducted into the military upon graduation. His service years were with the First Air Cavalry Division in Vietnam.
"I have enjoyed a unique career as an industrial designer with Owens Illinois inc., the world’s leading Container Company". He is the recipient of 50 design patents and was a member of the Industrial Designer’s Society of America. Simultaneously, Goettner pursued a parallel career as an illustrator. Consequently, his paintings take on a realistic, and highly detailed technique. "Automobiles and aircraft have been my passion for as long as I can remember and these subjects fit right into may style of art".
Michael is a member of the Air Force Art Program and has two original paintings in the Air Force Art Collection at the Pentagon. His experiences include flying in the T-38 jet fighter. A recent assignment at Moody Air Force Base was to experience air to air and air to ground combat training as well as close formation flying in the T-38 fighter.
"I am fortunate to have the opportunity to exhibit across America in a host of invitational events with many of the world’s foremost automobile and aviation artists. Associations and acquaintances in my adventures continue to expand and include such names as Carroll Shelby, Luigi Chinneti, The Lamborghini Family, Lee Holman, Nascar’s Wood’s Brothers and many more".
