Coast Therapeutic & Sports Massage
Massage Therapist, sports injury, Registered Massage Therapist
Sports massage therapy differs from conventional massage therapy in both techniques used and goals of treatment. The primary goals in sports therapy are to help rehabilitate current injuries, prevent new injuries from happening, and/or to treat and prevent secondary compensations (problems); ultimately, enhancing athletic performance.
Specific techniques and instruction in therapeutic exercises help enhance athletic performance and prevent overuse problems. We also focus on the biomechanics of various sports and how they affect the body in order to further prevent future sports-related injuries.
Treatment often includes identifying soft-tissue and joint restrictions, areas of hypertonus (ie. “tight” muscles or spasms), neuromuscular firing, and of course circulation and lymphatic drainage.
