Cremation has been in existence since the early Stone Age, most likely beginning in Europe and the Near East.

Nowadays, cremation is becoming increasingly popular with families.  In 1994, the cremation rate in British Columbia was approximately 70%.  Today's cremation rate is well over 85%. Many people choose cremation as a natural way to simplify the funeral process. They feel it still offers a meaningful, personalized path to pay tribute to the life of their loved one.

Everden Rust is the only Okanagan funeral provider that owns and operates two onsite crematoriums. Our onsite crematoriums are just another way we guarantee that your loved one's care is near to our hearts.  It's peace of mind at a time when you need it the most.

The word funeral is defined as "a ceremony or group of ceremonies held in connection with the burial of a dead person" or "The burial procession accompanying a body to the grave".

What comes to mind when you think of a traditional funeral?  Most people think of an open casket with visitation for friends and family.  A hearse may also come to mind along with a procession to the cemetery for the burial of the casket. Whatever a funeral is for you, we are here to assist you in making it happen.  Traditional funeral services have changed over the years and may also include some non-traditional elements.

Today's traditional funeral service usually involves a viewing of the deceased by friends and family prior to the funeral, the funeral service, the interment of the body at a cemetery or the cremation and finally a reception or time of fellowship for the family and friends.

Everden Rust Funeral Services is a full service funeral provider. This means we have licensed funeral directors and embalmers to provide your family with a funeral arrangement with a more traditional feel.

A contemporary arrangement allows family and friends to pay their last respects in an environment without all of the formality of a traditional funeral.

During a Contemporary Memorial Service there are no scheduled events. Instead, it is an open format where eulogies, poems, or memories can be shared by the family and friends. Contemporary background music may be played, personal items and photographs may be displayed and videos presented.

The Contemporary Memorial Service usually takes place at the funeral home; however, some families may wish to have it elsewhere. The Contemporary Memorial Service can be arranged with burial or cremation.   The staff at Everden Rust Funeral Services have years of experience in arranging and scheduling all of the details required.

Over the last several years Everden Rust has started to offer eco friendly urns and caskets.  These specially made products are constructed from biodegradable paper, plastic or wood materials that will break down over time when buried.

Eco friendly caskets and urns are becoming increasingly popular with a growing segment of families who want to respect our earth.

In addition to eco friendly urns and caskets, are green cemeteries.  These cemeteries are a place where individual graves become part of the local natural landscape and contribute to the environmental sustainability of the larger, community eco-system.  Green burial is an interment practice where human remains are returned to the earth to decompose naturally and contribute to new life.  Human remains are prepared for burial without embalming and are buried in an approved and fully biodegradable casket or alternative container. No form of grave liner is used.
