VARC Services The Vancouver Avian Research Centre offers workshops, birding resources, speaking programs and other specialized services.
The Banding Workshop is a 3 day action-packed introductory course consisting of presentations, specimen study, field mist-netting, banding, and processing under the direction of Derek Matthews, Master Bander and Bander-in-charge at the Vancouver Avian Research Centre. This 3 day course offers the opportunity for beginner and intermediate birders to hone their identification skills.
The course includes classroom and field sessions and assists not just in identifying species that can be seen in the Lower Mainland but also provides generic birding skills that will be useful world wide. To further our goal to create greater public awareness of the importance of birds in a healthy environment, speaking programs have been developed to cover a number of topics and to reach different audiences. Whether it is a school group, a business club, the local naturalists or seniors centre, we have dynamic speakers that will deliver fascinating information in a lively and interesting manner. Specialized Services The number of environmental companies in the Lower Mainland increases every year and with it the number of research projects in which avian research is a key component.
In order to assist with those projects, VARC offers services to corporate clients. These services are customized to the needs of the specific project but include customized training programs, supervision of banding sites and comprehensive species reports for specific species studies.
