Keywords: adapter, Pneumatic System

The P3 leak check adapter has been developed to provide an easier and more effective method of pressurizing and leak checking the Pratt & Whitney PT6T fuel control pneumatic system. The adapter installs in place of the P3 filter bowl and element and allows pressurization of the pneumatic system at the source. The unique design allows the adapter to be installed without spinning the supply hose. The adapter is equipped with a 2 foot (60 cm) section of shop air hose with a 1/4-18 NPT fitting that is easily adapted to existing shop air supplies.

Since the adapter installation is so quick and easy it becomes practical for maintenance personnel to leak check the pneumatic system early in the troubleshooting process or to verify the system after component replacement. Too often the leak check is completed as a last resort due to the difficulty plumbing into the system and the air leak that was causing the problem isn't found until some or all of the components have been swapped out. Early use of this tool will eliminate that scenario.

The adapter fits all PT6T-3 and -6 family twin packs that utilize a P3 filter assembly including engines with the upgraded (Post SB 5309 / SB 5359) filter configuration.

Price and Availability

After an evaluation by Pratt & Whitney Canada the tool has been approved and assigned P&W part number PWC70797.

Remove the P3 filter bowl and filter element from the powersection and install the adapter hand tight. Supply the adapter with clean, dry shop air at the pressure specified in the P&W Maintenance Manual. The complete fuel control system air circuit is now pressurized and ready for leak checks.
