Wedge Action Clench

The profile of the comet fasteners has been designed to produce the unique “Wedge-Action” clench found in no other hook type mechanical fasteners. This feature guarantees a stronger hold on the belt than would otherwise be possible and leads to increased tensile strength in the finished splice.

Each box of Comet Fasteners contains 36 X 76mm (3”) combs, sufficient for 2.74M (9’) of splicing.

Comet Fastener Lacing Vise

Operated by a screw and toggle block mechanism, the Comet lacing machine accepts fasteners with an 8mm pitch and develops a clenching force of 150 kN (15 tons) between the jaws. This ensures full penetration and effective bedding of even the strongest fasteners. The machine’s robust, compact design makes it readily portable. It is designed to accept interchangeable combs and jaw plates for inserting the full range of comet fasteners.

If this doesn’t work we then proceed to eliminate all the other possibilities such as pulleys not being aligned, skirting not in proper condition or alignment, crowns, cleaners and guidlers. If you have small diameter pulleys, or need to quickly replace a belt on a system, then the other solution is to lace the belt on both ends and join it together with a lacing pin.
