Here’s the secret ..Anger management does not work! Not without a deep insightful understanding of what lies beneath the anger, the triggers/buttons/subconscious material (whatever you want to call it) are identified, understood, and placed in the context of the person's life.
The role of therapist is to take the person on a scuba diving expedition to look beneath the surface and explore the crevices and the open water below. Once the exploration begins, our job is to make sense of what we see, and what is left to explore. Underwater, things become magnified, bigger than they are in real life. The therapist’s job is to bring these “things” to the surface and look at them in the light of day.
The goal of therapy is to put things into perspective from today’s view and to develop more appropriate and healthy responses that are mature, assertive, and relation-preserving.
