Island Alpine Guides - Courses > Climbing

The emphasis in this day is on technical systems (anchors, belaying, rappelling etc.) to make sure that when you go out there you are doing things the right way to make rock climbing as safe as it should be. Our two day learn to lead course covers everything you need to know to lead safe pitches from placement of protection and planning your ascents to station management and even some self rescue techniques.

Island Alpine Guides - Courses > Avalanche

The Avalanche Skills Training two is an advanced avalanche course which takes a closer look at how avalanches form and how to manage more complex terrain. The Avalanche Skills Training One is an introductory avalanche course designed for individuals with little to no avalanche related experience. We delve deeper into the snow pack and learn how to apply different tests to help gain an understanding of snow stability and strength.

Island Alpine Guides - Trips > Climbs

While the first ascent was made nearly one hundred years ago, the six thousand foot ascent from the valley floor to the summit as well as some low fifth class rock climbing, mean this trip is still challenging today. While our normal Comox Glacier Hike takes the standard hiking route on which there is a little scrambling at most, this trip reaches the glacier from a secret valley in behind and then via a rarely climbed couloir.
