The renowned Comox Valley Youth Music Centre’s Musical Theatre program will present one of the most exciting dance musicals ever created. Filled to the brim with memorable songs like “One’ and “What I Did for Love,” A Chorus Line will blow you away.

In this one of a kind summer training program, talented young actors and musicians from across North America learn what it takes to mount a Broadway-level production, from acting, singing and dancing to painting scenery and working with sound and lights. Alumni of the program include Leah Gibson, whose film credits include Watchmen and Twilight: Eclipse.

In an empty theatre, on a bare stage, casting for a new Broadway musical is almost complete. For 17 dancers, this audition is the chance of a lifetime. It’s what they’ve worked for – with every drop of sweat, every hour of training, every day of their lives. It’s the one opportunity to do what they’ve always dreamed – to have the chance to dance. This is A Chorus Line, the musical for everyone who’s ever had a dream and put it all on the line. Winner of nine Tony Awards, including “Best Musical” and the Pulitzer Prize for drama, this singular sensation is one of the longest-running musicals in Broadway’s history. Presented for the first time on Vancouver Island, A Chorus Line will knock your socks off.

One of the most exciting aspects of this production of A Chorus Line is that the production was cast, rehearsed, and produced (sets/costumes/lights) in just under two weeks. On July 2, 33 young people arrived in the Comox Valley and under the tutelage of director Lori Mazey, musical director Kris Epps (a concert pianist and conductor from Montreal), choreographer Lindsay Sterk (artistic director of Pantuso School of Dance) and tenor Ashley Daniel Foot, the show was crafted from scratch in record time.

Well as of right now I am the Production Manager and Assistant Musical Director of CYMC’s 2011 production of A Chorus Line and CYMC Glee Club. We’re thrilled to announce that Josiah George will be joining our 2011 faculty as Production Manager and Assistant to the Music Director. I also just finished my second year at the Canadian College of Performing Arts, which is basically like an 8 month long CYMC.

Favorite CYMC memory: My favourite memory has got to be preview night of Sweeney Todd when Adam Kozlick and I were in the middle of a very intense scene and all of a sudden this siren goes off. I have just graduated my first year at the Canadian College of Performing Arts located in Victoria BC and will be going into second year in September.
