Custom Web Application Development
Website Development, custom website, Custom Web Design
DesignPractica has created a variety of custom web applications for several types of businesses. Websites for eCommerce, promotional sites, CMS-based applications, sites for mobile users. Custom application development is a wide area, and we are striving to be flexible to accommodate each customer's unique requirements. But in general broad strokes, here is how our process works.
* First, we listen to our customer to learn what exactly needs to be built in this case. We ask lots of questions about the goal of the project, the way various users will work with it, and the other types of software the service will integrate with. We may meet in person, if the client is based in Vancouver area, or talk by phone, Skype, IM – whatever is most convenient for our customer.
* We produce an estimate of the project, at no charge for the client. With a detailed list of steps covering the entire project, from preliminary analysis and initial design to implementation details, mock-ups or examples of visual design, and a rough range of the cost. Our preference is to use fixed-range estimates and stay close to them wherever possible, because this is the least stressful way for a customer to deal with a significant project. But sometimes circumstances change during the development (for example, when a new important requirement comes up), and we re-evaluate and re-estimate everything as we go. No matter what, our goal is to keep the customer informed at all stages about the progress we are making, and to actively seek your feedback - this is the secret of our success.
* Once we’ve reached an agreement on the course of the project, we receive a partial down payment and begin to work on the details of your web application. Throughout the whole process, we focus on visibility and constant interaction with the customer, so that you can not only see what is constructed, but you can test-drive the new system, and request to add all the important details and clarifications in the middle of the project. This interaction is invaluable, and we stick to agile methods of design and development religiously.
At DesignPractica, we love open-source tools such as Django web application framework, Satchmo online store engine, CMS frameworks — from WordPress and Drupal to Magento and Django-CMS, Ruby/Rails, JQuery, Sencha, etc. We also use .NET, mobile frameworks, and desktop and mobile development tools for Linux, Windows and Mac. We pick the tools that are right for the job in every particular case.
