Coquitlam SAR was invited by the New Westminster Sparks (Girl Guides of Canada) to go over the hug-a-tree educational package with the 5 and 6 year old future mountaineers and explorers. The hug-a-tree presentation included: a short video, hands-on equipment demonstration, an avalanche beacon search, and a tour of the Coquitlam 2 truck.

This presentation included a brief introduction to the Coquitlam SAR team, a talk about the equipment, 10 essentials for survival, winter avalanche safety and then some action stations where the Scouts were able to practice making knots. On December 13th, 2010, Coquitlam Search & Rescue was invited to present to the 4th Port Coquitlam Scouts.
