The Karatina washing station shares its name with the town it’s situated close to in Nyeri - a district known for it’s high quality coffee. About 1000 producers delivers cherry to Karatina, the oldest factory in the region, built in 1957.
The cherries are received at the factory where only the ripe cherries are being processed. The processing is meticulous - pulping, fermentation and washing. Then, the coffee is soaked for up to 24 hours before it is dried on raised beds - wood or metal frames with a mesh bottom to allow for air circulation.
Mellow acidity and deep sweetness with flavours of dried stone fruits and blackcurrants.
