Translating the data generated from an effective anti-piracy campaign into meaningful insight that impacts business decisions is a critical component of a comprehensive online strategy.
First and foremost is establishing the connection between piracy and consumer demand. After all, the people who are searching for free copies of your works are inherently interested in the content you have created. The business value comes from understanding the behaviors and patterns of these potential consumers.
In some cases, online piracy results from the inability of consumers to easily acquire the desired works locally. In one customer example, after noticing a high incidence rate in a particular country, we found that the content had not been made available upon release in that geography and native language. Upon understanding this connection, the publisher's subsequent releases were timed differently in that country and the incidence rate of online piracy decreased.
