Chiropractic Patient, Just Like You My first experience with a chiropractor occurred while I was attending university in the faculty of education. I herniated two low back discs while moving my mother's upright piano. I was 24 years old, and in great shape but knew nothing of spinal stability and alignment. I thought strong muscles, a strong back. After four days flat on my back, the family medical doctor advised surgery. My father, who was confined to a wheelchair, suggested a chiropractor he knew of. My first visit left me wondering if I had made a wise decision. The chiropractor did not examine me or explain what the treatment would be. He did x-rays and said "you have a problem in your low back". He placed me on my side and "adjusted" my low back. I persisted for seven treatments over ten days after which I could walk upright, sleep through the night, and drive myself to appointments. A tremendous improvement but unfortunately my father (200lbs) fell on to me while I was helping him dress. Three more days on my back, but this time relief came even faster from the chiropractic adjustments. An Informed Chiropractic Patient is a Happy Patient I truly appreciate what my first chiropractor had done for me but he never explained my injury or the therapy I received. This is why, in our clinic, we do a detailed history/examination and discuss the diagnosis and treatment options with all patients. An informed patient is a happy patient. We reserve one hour for the initial examination/consultation. The patient is encouraged to interact with the doctor and ask questions. My philosophy is to keep my fees reasonable so the average person can attend for therapy. The clinic has a relaxed and friendly atmosphere, taking on the attitudes of the staff and therapists. I do work six days a week at our Edmonton clinic but I take time for my wife and two children. Outside of work, my interests are fishing, camping, and boating in the wilderness around Edmonton and beyond. My wife and I are involved with our children's elementary school and volunteer for various activities. Often I enjoy repairing cars, boats, and electrical appliances in my shop on our acreage.
