HVC Canada owns and operates three subsidiary companies: HVC Construction Management Ltd., HVC Constructors Ltd., and HVC Rentals Ltd. This structure maximizes our basket of services to customers, increases value to our share holders, and reduces our exposure to inherent risks associated with construction management.
HVC Construction Management Ltd. specializes in the construction management of mechanical and electrical installations, and our folio of seasoned construction veterans is unparalleled in the electrical and mechanical construction industry. The services we provide for any given project are established in consultation with the client and tailored to address each projects specific objectives. Generally, the construction management process covers:
- Budgetpreparation (both pre-construction and continuous review during construction), analysis, value engineering, and constructability review (at each stage of the engineering process, i.e. 50%, 75%, and 95%)
- Material Managementprocurement and subcontracting
- Risk Managementsafety and environmental, cost, schedule, change management, and quality
- Labour Managementrecruiting, retention, training, and development
Each element in the construction management process includes execution, contingency, and quality planning. Each construction project requires a unique series of events to be undertaken and executed in logical sequence over time. With the above construction management process in mind, each individual project is then broken down into a delivery method with three distinct phases: pre-construction and planning; construction; and commissioning and close-out.
Therefore the success of all projects requires collaboration and integration of all stakeholders, committed to achieving common project objectives. In addition, it requires a disciplined approach to managing the construction process, and recognition and management of its inherent risks. At HVC Canada we achieve this with the process driven construction management system.
Further, we offer both external and internal training to all construction management staff in the areas of leadership, safety and environmental issues, construction management principles, and ethics.
Through our wholly-owned subsidiary, HVC Constructors Ltd., HVC Canada is able to provide direct hire construction craft labour to construct any size project. All labour is provided through local Canadian Building Trade Unions. We have established strong relationships with all trade unions through the application of fair labour management policies and practices. The trade designations that HVC Constructors Ltd. self performs are: millwright and rigging, piping, plumbing and heating, industrial ducting and vessel erection, miscellaneous steel erection, electrical, HV distribution, tray and cable, fiber optic/data cabling, and electrical heat tracing. All other trades are sub-contracted.
Alberta Building Trade Unions have invested substantial funds into the continuous development of craft labour. Project specific training is available from some trade unions, which will be necessary in maintaining or increasing skill levels during the peak labour demand between 2008 and 2012.
Collective agreements are in place for the next three years of construction activity, providing stability and productivity.
In addition to the building trade skill development, HVC Canada offers both external and internal training to trade supervisors and tradespersons in the areas of leadership, better supervision, workface planning, safety and environmental issues, and ethics.
This training, coupled with the trade skills development, allows for the next generation of industry leaders to be familiar with all aspects of the construction industry.
HVC Rentals has been established to provide HVC Construction Management and HVC Constructors with the specialized tools and equipment to perform all types of mechanical and electrical installations. This company also has the flexibility to assist its subcontractors by supplying required specialty equipment to complete their scope of work.
