This program is responsible for:

  • Identifying and treating reversible causes of renal failure.
  • Improving the early detection and treatment of patients who have the potential to develop renal disease, by recognizing the major risk factors for chronic kidney disease (CKD) - hypertension, diabetes, and dyslipidemia.
  • Delaying the progression of disease in patients who have developed chronic renal insufficiency with kidneys that are functioning at less than 50% of normal.
  • Reducing the morbidity and mortality of renal patients through optimal management.
  • Providing treatment (Hemodialysis or peritoneal dialysis) for patients with end stage renal disease (ESRD).
  • Managing coexisting conditions and complications.
  • Optimizing biochemical, physical and psychological health.

Northern Alberta Renal Program (NARP) | Programs & Services

The Northern Alberta Renal Program serves the catchment area encompassing northern and central Alberta, northwestern Saskatchewan, northeastern British Columbia and the Northwest Territories. This includes a team of Nephrologists, Nurses, Social Workers, Dietitians and other allied health workers. A multidisciplinary approach to care is utilized with the patients with ESRD.

These two Alberta Health Services programs are responsible for providing all chronic and acute renal care services across the province. Foothills Medical Centre is located one block south of 16 Ave (Trans Canada Hwy).

Renal Services - University of Alberta Hospital | Programs & Services

The programs employ specialized multidisciplinary staff, use sophisticated equipment and offer a full range of treatment options utilizing research-based, best-practice standards. These two Alberta Health Services programs are responsible for providing all chronic and acute renal care services across the province. Designated disabled parking spaces underground and on the 4th (weather-sheltered pedway) level of the East parkade.
