We’ve received our first (of 3) Nuova Simonelli Aurelia Competition espresso machines. These machines have several modifications on them to increase the temperature stability of the machine and have been calibrated at the factory for a brew temperature of 200F.

I used my Scace2 to confirm the calibration and this is what I’m reading.

  1. Without purging, I get an immediate initial temperature of 198F
  2. After 3oz of water, the temperature is at 200F
  3. The hottest the water got was 201F

The pump pressure is set to 9Bar

This machine also has modified steam tips.

Well its about time!

This coming May 24th - 25th, Espuccino will be hosting the first ever Prairie Regional Barista Competition. This is an event sanctioned by the Canadian Barista Academy and the winners of the PRBC will go on to compete in the Canadian National Barista Championship with that winner representing all of us at the WBC.

There will be a total of 16 to 20 competitors and registration is $75. As soon as we receive more details and sign-up forms, rules - we’ll post them online.

In the meantime, let everyone know and book the day off to come and watch or better yet, to come and compete.

We love espresso equipment and we’re always striving to get the most from our machines - whether its adding PID to ensure accurate brew temperature or tweaking out our grinders so that they dose the ground coffee in a sifted way to prevent channeling when pulling shots through a naked portafilter.
