Technical Opinion on Stucco Painting What paint is best for Stucco?
There are so many choices and opinions out there, its hard to know what to choose? Here are some guidelines based on condition of stucco and your priorities.
Vinyl/Acrylic Inexpensive Latex Paint:
Only use this if budget is very important. Soaks into stucco fine but would tend to fade and lose its color quickly. Do not use on medium or dark colors.
100% Acrylic Latex Paint:
This is an excellent choice if your stucco is in reasonable good shape and you dont want any sheen. Soaks into stucco and has good color retention.
Semi elastomeric /Acrylic Latex Paint:
If your stucco does not have considerable hairline or large cracks, this is the recommended product. It has a very high build, which will increase coverage and durability and has excellent color retention. If you look at it on an angle you will notice a very slight sheen, which helps repel water. It soaks right into the stucco.
This product was designed and manufactured for stucco that has considerable hairline and large cracks. It is a very high build product that bridges over those cracks. It also has a slight sheen, and repels water. Its drawback is that it tends to sit on the surface and bind to he stucco rather than soaking in, which increases the chance of warranty issues with the manufacturer. It is ideal for heavily cracked stucco.
