The oilsands materials has significant dilation tendency. Unique well completion and stimulation measures in the thermal recovery enable more proactive control on the rock deformation and failure processes. Out of its innovation spirit, BitCan has for long been championing proactive utilization of geomechanics in the in-situ development of the oilsands reservoirs. For example, we are currently developing a fast SAGD start-up process that is to be field-tested in the near future. We are also investigating proactive field measures to break down shale stringers in the oilsands payzone during the SAGD operations. We are simulating a flat bottom-up SAGD process for some uniquely challenging environment.
