A former health
centre reclaimed and renovated, redecorated and revived, The Backstreet Gallery
exhibits the creations of Anglophone, Francophone, Métis, and First Nations
artists and artisans of the French River area. It currently houses the works of
over fifty painters, photographers, sculptors, potters, authors, musicians,
weavers, quilters, and more.
The French River
Cultural Industries Council, an incorporated not-for-profit, opened this
permanent display of local talent in November 2010. A hub of cultural activity,
The Backstreet Gallery shines from within with remarkable artwork.
The FRCIC also develops community programs:
-Land of the Voyageurs Rubber Boots Festival
-French River Youth Arts Experience
-cultural courses for adults
