For some, sustainable design is a trend;
for Canadian Salvaged Timber, it is a long-standing philosophy that
began in 1997, when Lambos Tsaousidis, founder of the company, began
saving trees one by one. Today, the company offers over 100,000 board
feet of wood previously doomed by development, disease or storm damage,
making it one of the largest inventory of wood materials in downtown
Toronto.
“Right away, when we get our reclaimed wood 50 percent of it is
waste. Then when we pick out the waste and re-saw our lumber another 25
percent of it is waste,” notes the founder of CST, “Today, there is a
market for reclaimed wood, however not many retailers take the time to
sift out the waste and provide 100% usable material. At Canadian
Salvaged Timber we use our knowledge and experience of wood to provide
our clients with the highest quality of reclaimed wood right here in the
heart of the city."
Transitioning from wholesale to custom furniture design is not easy
but it is something that has blossomed after years of perseverance and
hard work. Canadian Salvaged Timber has offered its customers something
new: the opportunity to once again love your furniture because of the
narrative behind each piece.
Our furniture process is for the adventurous at heart.
Sharing their vision with designers, our clients are able to collaborate
to make their unique vision a reality and hand select each piece of
wood to begin their individual story behind their piece.
In the face of a throw-away culture, Canadian Salvaged Timber brings
the focus back to local, sustainable and custom design. “We’re
fortunate to have a community of clientele who can recognize great
design and appreciate being able to tell their dinner guests they hand
picked their raw maple slab to build their dining room table.”
