TubeInspect HD, named the Advanced Imaging Solution of the Year 2008 by Advanced Imaging magazine, is now available through Mississauga Ontario-based Applied Precision Inc. Serving as the only Canadian distributor for Germany-based AICON 3D Systems GmbH, Applied Precision distributes and supports the product within the Canadian market.

As a high resolution optical 3D measurement technology, TubeInspect HD is designed for very quick inspection of small, intricate, precision bent tube components/products. The unique aspect of TubeInspect is its very fast inspection time and ability to feed back in ‘real time’ corrective data to CNC tube benders.

Robert Bell, President of Applied Precision, says this integrated, ‘closed loop’ manufacturing concept is a much-needed development in an industry with increasing quality standards and growing need for financial and environmental savings.

TubeInspect measures tubes with diameters ranging from 1mm to 10mm and can measure bends between 1° and 180°. It can also measure tubes with connected bends or with flexible parts. A tube's measurement can be compared with a previously recorded sample part or with an imported CAD model.

“TubeInspect provides manufacturers with savings because expensive checking fixtures or gauges don’t have to be purchased or made for each tube that you need to measure,” explains Bell. “This leads to environmental savings as well, as manufacturers work to reduce their carbon footprint by reducing material waste through improved quality.”

American magazine Advanced Imaging recently chose TubeInspect for its top prize as the most innovative imaging solution of 2008. As the winner of the Advanced Imaging Solution of the Year 2008, TubeInspect was praised for its flexibility and efficiency.

Applied Precision is a leading provider of 3D digitizing systems and services across North America for new product development, quality inspection and CAD updating solutions to numerous manufacturing industries including: automotive manufacturing, recreational products, aerospace, medical device manufacturing, energy, RD and various consumer products industries.
