Doormats made from reclaimed or new lobster trap rope handwoven on Grand Manan Island, New Brunswick Canada.

Lobstermen annually discard thousands of  feet of polypropylene rope.  By replacing the rope they lessen the likelihood of losing their traps (which can cost as much as $250 apiece) in stormy weather. 

Normally, this rope  is put into landfills or incinerated.  30 Fathom  acquires the used rope from lobstermen and hand weaves beautiful, virtually indestructible doormats of different colours.

We also hand weave mats using new rope thereby offering customers of a greater range of beautiful colours.

Standard size of the doormats is 18 inches by 30 inches.  Mats are colourfast, mildew resistant, dry quickly and can be cleaned by simply shaking them or by hosing them down.
